Brophy’s spring musical production “Once Upon a Mattress” comes to Xavier’s Virginia Piper Performing Arts Center March 22.
Directed by Brophy English teacher Ms. Dorothy Dunnion and assisted by Brophy English teacher Ms. Susan Maynard, “Once Upon a Mattress” is a satiric retelling of the fable “The Princess and the Pea.”
Whether he is harmonizing with the Brophy Men’s Choir or dancing and singing in school musicals, Gary Williams ’11 always impresses the crowd with a deep-seated talent for the performing arts.
Some of his roles in Brophy/Xavier productions include Fyedka in “Fiddler on the Roof,” Joey Biltmore in “Guys and Dolls” and Seaweed in the more recent musical “Hairspray.”
What goes into putting together a Brophy production?
There is much more to it than most theatre-goers may notice. From set-building to long practices to opening night preparations and cast parties; Brophy productions are full of continued excitement.
What may be perceived as a simple scene is comprised of several actors, singers, dancers, musicians, sound and light managers, makeup artists, directors, painters and hours of practice.
Brophy-Xavier Theatre presents the Broadway musical “Guys and Dolls” in Xavier’s Performing Arts Center March 18-20 at 7 p.m.
Tickets are available from cast members or Ms. Sandra Dennard in the Students Activities Center starting March 1 for $7.
