This coming season, the swim team has set its goals for another state championship, but they also know all the pressure that stands in their way.

Senior Tim LaFave ‘18 said that there is not a lot of pressure to continue the streak.

“Every single year we get every team’s best shot, and it’s always going to take the whole team to come together to overcome that pressure,” he said.

He also said that the idea of making it 30 state championships has been motivating the team to push even more.

Swimmers at Brophy are not just handed the trophy. Swimmers spend hours in the pool working to add to the already prolific Brophy Swim Program. Many of the swimmers spend year round in the pool with their club teams, then they return to the Brophy pool during first semester for the season.

The student body expects that every year swim will be raising another trophy, but what the student body does not realize is the work that goes in behind the scenes.

“It’s really tough to balance school and swim but I think that me and my teammates have learned a lot of from our former captains on how to effectively manage our time,” said LaFave when asked about the struggle of balancing school and swim.

“The strength of our team this year has to be our impressive depth,” LaFave said.

He expects the team will have many swimmers poised to step up as major contributors this year.

Patrick Schramm ’18 said he really likes the depth of the team.

“So far I have been impressed this year with the talented group of underclassmen who are already making contributions. This just shows how promising the future is for the program,” he said.

With strong depth and confident leadership from this years captains, the swim team looks more than capable of continuing the winning tradition.
