THE ROUNDUP

Wednesday, Aug. 2, students gathered in the Robson Gym to make an impact. The Fall Blood Drive has been an integral part of Brophy’s commitment to service for a long time.

Originally in the hands of a block club (a group of families that live on particular block) the blood drive was soon put into the hands of Brophy’s student council. Since then, the blood drive has become an essential part of Brophy’s commitment to service.

“I don’t know a Brophy without a blood drive,” said Mr. Tony Oldani, Director of Scheduling.

With help from both Mr. Oldani and the Mothers Guild the blood drive is now a smooth and easy process. With help from the the Fall Blood Drive, students have access to a beneficial mode of service.

Not only that, but the students donations are ones that make an impact in their community around them.

“The United Blood Service works with all the hospitals in the valley and internationally helping with natural disasters and other medical procedures, and that they allow for students to have a low impact way to be incredibly impactful when people need it most,” Mr. Oldani said. Students around Brophy have also begun to recognize the impact they are making with their own donations.

“I just wanted to get out and get more involved and help others’ and Brophy made it super easy for me to do that,” said Charlie Cobb ’21. Cobb said he was nervous and first, but when he entered the building that the environment and the people made it feel welcoming.

This allowed for his donation to become a “humbling experience” and he believes that it is something everyone should do said Cobb.

With help from the Mothers Guild, a voluntary group of Brophy mothers, who have put in the work in order to have the blood drive go as smoothly as possible . They are seen around every corner of this event, whether it be their open arms at the front door, the snacks and drinks they provide for students after their donation or the hard work they put in to organizing student registration, it is clear that they care deeply for the cause.
