THE ROUNDUP
The long, tiresome season has come to a close for the Brophy varsity golf team.
After a slow start, the Broncos battled their way back into contention and proved that they are still a top competitor in the super-region and state tournaments.
The team got a lot of momentum going into the state tournament by finishing first in their bracket in the super-region tournament.
David Lowe ’11 and Parker Middleton ’10 lead the way for the Broncos during the state tournament Nov. 9-10. Lowe jumped out to the early lead firing an even 72 on a very challenging Papago golf course.
“It was a tough course, a long course and the greens were running fast,” said coach Mr. Jon Shores.
On the second day, Lowe would go on to shoot a three over 75, finishing in a tie for fourth.
Playing partner Middleton would go on to finish in sixth place firing up a 75-74 for a 149 total.
As a team the Broncos shot 616 in the tournament, but fell short of their goal of second by seven shots. Desert Vista grabbed second and shot 609.
Not to be discouraged about the fourth place finish, Mr. Shores said “The future looks good, so we will see what will happens over the spring and summer and hope that they all improve.”
