The No. 2 Salpointe Catholic Lancers entered Brophy’s gym on Tuesday Dec. 7 undefeated after starting the season 7-0 highlighted by a victory over defending 5A-I champ North.

However, on Dec. 7Brophy turned the tables on Salpointe 55-37, even with two of their leaders missing significant portions of the game.

James Harper ’12 was injured only a couple plays into the game and had to be helped to the locker room.

Sai Tummala ’11 battled foul trouble during most of the game.

Tummala picked up his third foul midway through the second quarter, and picked up his fourth early in the third quarter.

In high school a player fouls out when they commit five fouls.

While Tummala was on the bench with foul trouble, Rodrigo Furtado ’11 picked up some of the slack.

Furtado led Brophy with 13 points and has become a fan-favorite.

The game was never really close; Salpointe did not lead in the contest.

At the end of the first quarter Brophy led 13 to eight and by halftime Brophy’s lead ballooned to 10.

Every player on Brophy’s Varsity Basketball team got to play.

In the second half, the Broncos played keep away from the Lancers which shortened the game.

Point guard Fred Gammage ’12, who recently concluded his football season as a quarterback and wide receiver, scored 11 points, while Tummala scored nine.

Emilio Acedo led the Lancers with 10 points.

Brophy can’t celebrate this win for too long; they play at Mesquite on Thursday, Dec. 8 and at Perry on Friday Dec. 9.
