Broncos to face Chaparral in semifinals May 10

Brophy came back from an early 1-0 deficit to defeat Hamilton 10-2 Saturday, May 5 with help from Ryan Castellani ’14, who had two hits and a walk with three RBIs.
“We swung the bat well tonight…We had two triples and two homeruns in a big ballpark that we took advantage of,” Said assistant coach and Dean Mr. Patrick Higgins,
The first run of the game at Phoenix Municipal Stadium came in the top of the third when Hamilton’s Skyler Palermo scored on a pass ball to make the score 1-0.
Brophy responded in the bottom of the third with a leadoff triple by Connor Messman ’13. He scored when Castellani hit an RBI single to make it a 1-1 tie.
After Connor Moore ’12 walked, Dave Graybill ’12 hit a two-RBI double to make it a 3-1 Brophy lead.
Brophy extended their lead in the bottom of the fourth. Nick Jewitt ’12 led off with double. Then Castellani hit a two-run-homerun to make the score 5-1.
In the top of the fifth Hamilton scored their only other run on a wild pitch to make the score 5-2.
Then Brophy put in pitcher Steve Oleksak ’13. With a man on third Oleksak got the next two batters out, stranding the runner.
“The biggest pitches of this game were thrown by Steve,” Higgins said.
The Broncos scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth. The first two came on a two-run-homerun by Messman. After Castellani walked, Moore hit an RBI triple to score him. He scored on a Graybill RBI double making the score 10-2.
Hamilton failed to score in the top of the seventh, ending the game.
Brophy threw three different pitchers who gave up a total of two hits and two runs.
Brophy will play Chaparral on Thursday, May 10 at Camelback Ranch and the winner of that game will advance to the state championship.
