The Broncos started off their basketball season by not letting Mountain Pointe lead at any point in the game on Brophy’s way to a 13 point victory Nov. 27 at Brophy.

Max Kufel ’15 and Tim Kempton ’13 led the Broncos along with a team effort on defense.

“Our zone helped us,” said head basketball coach Mr. Tony Fuller. “They’re a very athletic team so we tried to see if they could shoot. Fortunately for us they did not make many shots tonight. I’m sure we’re going to see them again.”

Kufel led the Broncos in scoring with 16 points, he also tallied six assists, four rebounds and a steal.

“We really played well tonight, we pushed the ball, we moved the ball around really well and I think that’s how I got my advantages on the court,” Kufel said.

Kempton recorded a double double with 14 points and 13 rebounds to go along with two blocks.

Brophy had 20 turnovers, but still managed to come away with the 13 point victory.

“They only scored 39 points, if we can turn the ball over 20 times and win by 13 against a team like that, I think that’s a good thing,” Mr. Fuller said.

Kufel thought the team’s poise kept them in the game.

“We definitely need to work on our ball fakes, but other than that I think we can lower that turnover ratio,” Kufel said.

Along with the turnovers, the Broncos also lost their starting point guard, Austin Hammond ’13, in the third quarter.

Hammond took a hard fall and a couple of Mountain Pointe players fell on top of him. Hammond left the game and did not return.

“Now we have to regroup because we lost our point guard,” Mr. Fuller said.

The Broncos shot 46 percent from the field, 25 percent from three point range and 57 percent from the free throw line.
