Ibukun Oluyi ’17 recently received the Gold Medal for the President’s Volunteer Service Award for his volunteer work at the Mesa Public Library.
The President’s Volunteer Service Award is given to United States residents who show a commitment to volunteer work and civic participation.
“I volunteered over 135 hours this summer at the Mesa Public Library,” Oluyi said when asked about how he got his award.
Upon receiving the award, Oluyi became one of the 2,547,247 recipients of the President’s Volunteer Service Award, according to the website for the President’s Volunteer Service Award. Oluyi was also the only teen volunteer to receive this special recognition from 580 participants in the 2014 Summer Teen Volunteer Program in Mesa.
“I’m happy that I was awarded for working so many hours this summer, so I’m very happy,” Oluyi said.
