Brophy Rugby, led by Coach Tim Moran, is coming off winning the 2024 Arizona Rugby State Championship. They beat Phoenix to take home the banner for the first time since 2018 and have only missed the finals once since the program’s beginning in 2017.
The rugby team will be, “Returning the largest number of players since I established rugby at Brophy,” according to Coach Moran. However, Brophy Rugby also welcomes many newcomers to the team each year.
One of these returning players is Evan Brady ’25. Brady is the youngest of three brothers who have played rugby for Brophy.
“I just don’t want to lose that winning edge that we had over the over this last year, but I feel like with all the returning guys that had that winning edge, we created it last year, it’ll be no problem to get back into it by the next season,” Brady said when asked about how he feels about the team this year.
Coach Moran also commented on the mentality he plans to work deep into the program this year taking inspiration from the All Blacks, New Zealand’s national rugby team, who say, “Leave the jersey in a better place.”
Moran said this “Encourages players to contribute to the legacy of Brophy Rugby, ensuring the team and institution continue to thrive for future generations, just as Brophy Prep has been doing for almost 100 years. This group has done that.”
Both the coaches and players are confident that Brophy Rugby will have another successful season. As Coach Moran constantly reminds his players, “Everyone envies success, but few envy the work it takes to achieve it.”
Rugby introductory practices start Tuesday, November 19th, and official practices begin after winter break to start the new season.
