THE ROUNDUP
8 out of 10
What happens when you put Rambo, the Terminator, John McClane and the Transporter into one movie?
The answer: an explosive action packed lead filled movie called “The Expendables 2”.
Directed by Simon West, “The Expendables” shows how a group of action stars can mesh together and create a super-soldier team.
Did I also mention that the legendary Chuck Norris appears in the film?
As Sylvester Stallone (Barney Ross) sets to lead his mercenary team known to the world as The Expendables, he is accompanied by Terry Crews (Hale Cesar), Dolph Lundgren (Gunner Jensen), Jet Li (Yin Yang), Randy Couture (Toll Road) and Jason Statham (Lee Christmas) to avenge the death of a fallen Expendable.
Opposing the Expendables is another action super star, Jean-Claude Van Damme, who plays the plutonium seeking hunter Vilain.
Normally Van Damme plays the hero in his movies, but in “The Expendables 2” he plays a ruthless killer.
The plot of “The Expendables 2” is not very enticing, but it does not matter because the numerous explosions, gun fights and action make the ticket price worth paying for.
The movie begins at a fast pace with the original Expendables team racing to rescue a billionaire businessman from a heavily guarded remote village in Nepal.
The team bursts through the barriers of the village and fire their weapons and throw explosives.
Once the team has rescued the businessman, Ross is confronted by Mr. Church who says he must obtain a blueprint for a mine that obtains plutonium.
But as the team goes to retrieve the blueprint, they are met by Vilain and his men, whom end up killing one of the Expendables and steal the blueprint.
So now the team’s objective is to get revenge on Vilain and his men and retrieve the blueprint.
This is why the plot goes south fast.
The whole movie is based on revenge for the death. It is predictable and shallow in this way because the team’s main objective is to make Vilain pay for his atrocities.
But it doesn’t matter because it is the way they carry out their mission that really made the movie worth watching.
Compared to the first “Expendables” movie, the sequel was a much.
The “Expendables 2” improved the CGI that was used in the movie by making the fight scenes and gun fights look more real.
I would give an A for the explosions in the movie because there were a lot of them.
They weren’t just your average grenade explosions; they were the anti-tank missiles blowing up tanks and then taking out a whole town.
Although the movie seemed more like an action movie parody, “The Expendables 2” makes a very good attempt at putting together some of the most famous action stars and making them mesh.
I am really fond of this movie and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good action packed movie.
