THE ROUNDUP
The National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association recognized seven Brophy swimmers as National High School All-Americans this past summer for their performances in time trial qualifications.
Calvin Higgins ’15, Isaiah Williams ’15, Thomas Ottman ’15, Jack Blake ’17, Sean Gage ’17, Grady Ottomeyer ’15 and David Brown ’15 earned the honors from NISCA, a volunteer organization that supports high school coaches of aquatic sports.
“I think a lot of these kids come here to swim for Brophy so it’s quite an honor for these boys to be recognized and it’s quite an honor for Brophy to have them represent the school,” said head coach Mr. Patrick O’Neill.
NISCA selects 50 swimmers a year from every event to be honored as All-Americans by selecting the swimmers with the best times across the United States.
In past years Brophy usually has one or two swimmers and two-three relays honored by NISCA, Mr. O’Neill said.
This year, Ottman and Blake were recognized as All-Americans for their individual performances in freestyle races.
“It says a lot for the work ethic of the boys here at Brophy and I think it says a lot about the swim and dive team as a whole,” Mr. O’Neill said.
The swimmers and their respective races that qualified them as All-Americans are:
Cal Higgins – Medley Relay
DJ Brown – 200 Free Relay, Medley Relay
