Early Morning Rowing Inspires Jennings to Speak His Voice

By Zac Oseran ’28

At 4:30 a.m., when most high school students are still asleep, Brody Jennings ’26 is already up and at the lake. He found excitement in rowing every morning, even though it was early.

Jennings compared rowing to his previous sport, lacrosse. “I really enjoyed being on the water in some kind of unique way that I just didn’t find the same in lacrosse. It just captured me in a different way,” said Jennings

And his dedication paid off. By his sophomore year, he was already competing in the rowing national championship, exemplifying his work ethic.

“I’m a very curious guy…always asking questions and finding the best opportunities to learn,” Jennings said. He utilized his skill of asking questions, becoming part of the school newspaper, The Roundup, sophomore year.

One of the reasons he joined The Roundup was he “loved the culture of the paper.” Jennings loved the investigation through journalism and getting his questions answered. Throughout the years, Jennings worked his way up, becoming News Editor junior year and now Editor-in-Chief his senior year.

When asked how to improve The Roundup, he said, “I think our best editions are when we ask difficult things and we kind of force people to face reality a little bit deeper and force whether that’s administration or forcing students to kind of reconsider some of their thoughts.”

Yes, Jennings liked the entertainment articles, but his favorite stories are ones with hard questions. Jennings wants people to see his passion for leadership and his work through The Roundup

“I really take passion in the way I lead and I hope that it’s evident in the work that I do,” Jennings said.
