Junior Sprinter Eyes Division I Track Programs

By Bryce Hardaway ’28 | The Roundup

Brophy junior Garrett Larsen ’27 is emerging as one of the top young sprinters in Arizona, with his 48.93-second 400-meter time from his sophomore year putting him on the radar of Division I track programs.

“I really like the 400 just because of how I’m built. I’m very lanky, I’m a fascia-based athlete, meaning that my tendons are very strong. And I pretty much immediately clicked with the 400,” said Larsen.

In addition to the 400m, Larsen has posted an impressive 22.32-second 200m, a mark that puts him close to state-qualifying standards according to Arizona Interscholastic Association data. He’s also considering the 300m hurdles because of his natural rhythm and speed, though the 400m remains his clear favorite.

Off the track, Larsen balances a demanding academic schedule, including multiple AP classes, with involvement in several student organizations. “There’s one thing that people know me for outside of track, it’s that I try to be friends with everybody,” he said. True to that philosophy, he’s active in the Jewish Student Union, Rosary Club, and Fantasy Sports Club.

With his combination of athleticism, academics, and leadership, Larsen is building a resume that could carry him to the next level in collegiate track.
