THE BRONCO BEAT
It is rare that one gets a chance to go behind-the-scenes at the Gammage Theater, and I was incredibly lucky to have this opportunity.
Just recently, the Broadway musical Wicked traveled through Phoenix, and I had the privilege to sit in the pit orchestra to observe the musicians as well as see the stage from the best seat in the house. My piano instructor, Dr. Andria Fennig, plays keyboard in the pit orchestra, so I got a free one-way ticket to join the professional musicians and observe “Keyboard 1,” the most intense and comprehensive piano part in the show.

of Montreal’s greatness lies within its members’ unique ability to create experimental pop music.
Their tracks possess an overwhelming density, yet they maintain their infectious appeal with each listen. While the group evolves musically with every album, lyrically, front man Kevin Barnes never loses sight of his two favorite topics: sex and Kevin Barnes.

THE ROUNDUP
In a 2005 essay published in Scotland’s The Sunday Herald, the great late author Kurt Vonnegut once wrote, “No matter how corrupt, greedy, and heartless our government, our corporations, our media, and our religious and charitable institutions may become, the music will still be wonderful.”
We here at The Roundup recognize that while events like the Occupy Protests or school drama are unfolding, the music will always be, as Vonnegut said, wonderful. That’s why we’re happy to unveil the expansion of our music coverage into “The Bronco Beat.”

First Down: Brophy advances to second round of the playoffs
On Nov. 12 the Brophy Broncos defeated the Mountain Ridge Mountain Lions to advance to the second round of the playoffs.
This was a rematch of last year’s first round playoff game where the Broncos beat Mountain Ridge 24-0 at home. This time, however, the game was played on the Mountain Lions’ field.
This year also led to a Broncos win, 24-17.
“We just kept battling,” said coach Mr. Scooter Molander.
First Down: Brophy falls in Fiesta finale
On Oct. 29 the Brophy Broncos (4-5, 2-3 Fiesta) lost to the Desert Vista Thunder (7-2, 3-1 Fiesta) by a score of 38 to 14.
Brophy’s fans were all asked to wear black; little did they know their mood after the game would also be dark.
In the first half, it appeared Brophy would make a game of it.
