The Spongebob musical put on by the Brophy Theater Department premiered on Thursday, November 14, directed by Mrs. Brooke Feldman-Cryan and starring Annika Dowdall ’26.
The set is adorned with paintings of cartoonish aquatic backgrounds reminiscent of the Spongebob television series on Nickelodeon. The acting, which is at times funny and ridiculous, pulls the audience to the world of Bikini Bottom. The audience follows Spongebob predicting that the world will end and then having to work with his neighbors to save it.
The preparation for the show did not come without its challenges. Kevin Millar ’26, who plays Plankton in the production and is a staff member on The Roundup, said, “There’s still some things to, you know, adjust, but overall, it’s pretty solid.”
Millar’s shaky confidence in the production was shared by other members of the show including Ari Philippakis ’27, a side character in the show, who said “So far it’s going pretty good, I’m having a lot of fun.”
Anderson Roof ’27 who played Larry the Lobster said, “We’ve been staying until 8 a lot recently, but we gotta get the show done, and everyone’s worked hard… no one’s gonna say we haven’t”.
The crew is also a major part of the production, and their work with the set and the props truly add to the rest of the show.
Keegan Lawson ‘27, a member of the crew, worked with building & painting the set as a member of the crew. Keegan described the show as “a little bit behind schedule, but I think it’ll be good”. With all of the pieces of the set itself being painted, built and placed for the audience to see, along with the time spent by the actors, the hard work that the entire group has put in is put front and center for all viewers.
