Isaiah Oliver’s ’15 six receptions and Cade Knox’s ’16 207 passing yards weren’t enough to beat out Hamilton Sept. 6.
The Huskies defeated Brophy 41-6 in the Broncos’ first home game of the season.
The game started off in the Broncos’ favor as Ryan Velez ’16 ran for 39 yards on the first play.
The Broncos ended up kicking a field goal, making it 3-0 with game just being started.
After this both defenses took charge as the two teams combined for five punts before Hamilton moved down the field for a touchdown. The point after attempt was no good, making the game 6-3 Hamilton.
Brophy could not get momentum to swing back to their side, despite Knox connecting with Oliver for 27 yards as they tried to get some points.
Hamilton scored again but Oliver blocked the extra point making it 12-3 in the middle of the second quarter.
Velez ran for a gain of 20 yards to end the dry run, but the Broncos ended up on fourth down and punting again.
Dante Diez-Infante ’16 sacked Hamilton’s quarterback for a 14-yard loss to bring Huskies to the three-yard line.
Hamilton answered with a 97-yard touchdown pass.
The score was 19-3 going into halftime.
Hamilton had the ball to start the second half.
Jack Haddon ’15 intercepted a Hamilton pass and ran it for six yards before being brought down.
Oliver caught another 18-yard pass but the Broncos were forced to punt again.
The two defenses forced four back to back punts before Hamilton finally rushed for an 80-yard touchdown making it 25-3. The two-point attempt was also successful making the score 27-3.
On the ensuing drive Knox passed for 23 yards to Chad McClanahan ’16, and Knox then rushed for 11 yards.
But a Brophy fumble would end the drive.
Hamilton drove down the field for another touchdown, making the score 34-3 at the end of the third quarter.
Following another Hamilton touchdown early in the fourth quarter, Velez ran for 31 yards on the kickoff return, and also rushed for 16 the play after.
Knox and Oliver combined on three plays to put the Broncos in scoring position.
Streator Bates ’15 connected for his second field goal of the night to make it 41-6, which would be the final score.
Head coach Mr. Scooter Molander said the team would look for takeaways from the loss.
“We have to take a look at what we did well and build upon that and then correct the mistakes for sure, I feel like we are really close and I’m proud of these guys,” Mr. Molander said.
Oliver played both offense and defense most of the game and said despite the loss he tried to contribute however he could.
“We played pretty well tonight, I just do whatever I can on both sides of the ball to help the team out and to help the team win,” Oliver said.
