A Snapchat Geofilter made by Jeff Thomas ’16 went live Oct. 2nd on Brophy’s campus.

According to Snapchat.com, Geofilters are special overlays for Snaps that can only be accessed in certain locations.

Artists and designers are encouraged to use this tool to bring their one-of-a-kind style to the Snapchat community.

Snapchat, which allows users to send photos or short videos that will be automatically deleted, is a widely used social media app.

Since the first geotag, which says “Brophy Broncos,” there have been two more to go live on campus.

One says “The Red Army,” and the other says “Bronco Nation.”

All of these are only available on campus.

“I realized we were the only high school without one … everyone uses snapchat, so I made it during a flex period,” Thomas said about why he made the filter.

Xavier also has a snapchat Geofilter made by their Student Council.

“The Snapchat Geofilter is a great way for people to see what’s going on around campus … it provides a new perspective, and if you aren’t on campus you can still see what’s happening,” said Brendan Burg ’17.

It is fairly simple to make a Snapchat Geofilter.

“The website has a template, I just use free fonts I find. It takes 30 minutes tops,” Thomas said.

Snapchat approves all Geofilters before they go live.

Gurkaran Bhatti ’17 made the “Red Army” Geofilter because he said it could help kids show their school spirit.

“People use Snapchat all the time, having our own Geofilter helps us stand out,” said Ben Drake ’17.

Snapchat also allows for Geofilters during specific events at locations like sports games or major events around the country.
