Students are presented with a great opportunity to earn extra credits though the Jesuit Virtual Learning Academy (JVLA) to help them get ahead in class load and credit count. .

This Jesuit-run academy lets students take courses online either during the school year or over the summer to earn full class credits.

This is a fantastic opportunity for students who need to fill a credit or want to get ahead on their own time over the summer break. JVLA offers classes online that are taught and directed by qualified teachers across the nation.

JVLA helps students get ahead on their credits, as well as explore different subjects that are not offered at Brophy. It is a great program for students who are not sure on what they want to study in college or to fill extra time during summer break.

Jack Clark ’18  took bioethics over the summer and had a great experience.

“I took bioethics through JVLA because I wanted to have more flexibility in my schedule for senior year,” Clark said.

The format for JVLA is very unique and changes for each course.

“The course was heavily writing assignment based,” Clark said. “We were given prompts and then asked to do research and write a two to five page paper on the subject.”

The course took Clark six weeks, but was very smooth and had clear deadlines. The faculty are very easy to get a hold of and flexible to personal problems and questions.

The grading scale is a little different as a 93 percent is an A and a 92 is a B, but other than that there aren’t many differences to classes at Brophy.

JVLA, overall, is an amazing way to get an open schedule or just explore different subjects.

I would highly recommend students to look into the opportunities that JVLA can offer them.
