Brophy College Preparatory has seen a 70% increase in JUGs for 2024 vs. 2023 during the first month of school.
With the new restrictions such as a ban on baggy clothing, colored hair, and a ban on phones during community periods, Brophy faculty have greatly increased the enforcement of these rules, giving out JUGs left and right.
According to data from Dr. Brian Johnson, Dean of Student Formation, last year during the first month of school, the top five JUG infractions in order were: tardy, parking, conduct violation, dress and missed deadlines. Seniors had a total of 77 JUGs; juniors had 51; sophomores had 62; and freshmen had 51. This comes out to a total of 241 JUGs.
This year, in the same timeframe, students received 409 JUG infractions. This is split up between seniors (128), juniors (107), sophomores (89) and freshmen (85). The most common JUGs were in response to problems with hair, dress code, parking and tardiness, and missed deadlines.
Missed deadlines was an infraction related to a rare scenario regarding the requirement for seniors to sign their transcript release forms for their college counselors. Approximately 80 seniors received JUGs for not doing this.
Freshmen received the fewest infractions in the given timeframe in both years.
Seniors received the most infractions in both years.
Tardies and parking are the most common infractions for both years, and shave, hair, and dress code JUGs have gone up so this year compared to last year as more faculty have been reporting these types of infractions.
