Frosh Mixer means moonlit marine madness

Amazing, energizing, incredible; all words used by freshmen to describe the annual Frosh Mixer.

Friday, Aug. 20 was a day to remember for the Class of 2014. Walking through the gates of Brophy, past the array of Student Council members dressed in navy sport coats and the yacht parked out front, the freshmen broke the social barrier and officially got the Brophy experience.

The theme of the mixer was “Yacht Club,” a way for students to dress up in sailor hats and khakis.

“It was a wonderful experience,” said Griffen Tymins ’14 after the dance as he stood with sweat on his forehead and a grin on his face.

Frosh Mixer attendee Andrew Fuller ’14 added, “It was amazing; the kids at Brophy really know how to throw a party.”

The Xavier girls seemed to have enjoyed it just as much as the Brophy boys.

“I had a great time and met lots of new people at the dance. We haven’t had much of a chance to socialize yet with Brophy students before the Frosh Mixer,” Kat Pierson ’14 XCP said.

An e-mail from Student Council member Keith Bender ’11 said at first there was definite apprehension from Xavier and Brophy freshmen, it being their first Brophy dance.

“I think that as soon as the freshmen saw all of us dressed up, going crazy and partying, they quickly shed those worries and started having fun,” Bender wrote.

Student Councilman Jobert Adan ’12 had this to say: “The Frosh Mixer was a huge success, the Class of 2014 truly sailed into the Brophy harbor.”

Being “hooped” with a Xavier student is an ice-breaker between boys and girls in which they dance with each other. Student Council members roam the dance hula hooping a boy with a girl.

Students like Fred Flaherty ’14 said they were lucky enough to be hooped up to seven or eight times.

The Brophy/Xavier Student Council walked away with their heads held high, feeling that this was one of the best dances they have ever hosted.

“There’s no doubt in our minds that this was one of the most successful dances in recent memory,” Bender said.
