THE ROUNDUP
The Brophy Dads’ club met Tuesday, Aug. 28 in the Harper Great Hall to present a check to Principal Mr. Bob Ryan for new parking lot and basketball court at Brophy’s Manresa retreat facility.
Manresa is located in Oak Creek Canyon north of Sedona. Construction consisted of repairing the parking lot and the basketball court.
Every year the Brophy Dads’ club receives a list of ideas that require money in order to be accomplished. First they met to discuss how much money is left over from the previous year; then they discussed what could be done with the leftover funds.
Last year the group paid off the $110,000 endowment scholarship under Rev. Anton Renna, SJ’s name. The plan was to create a new parking lot and basketball court for Brophy’s Manresa with the money left over. Construction was completed over the summer.
“The money we had left over, the ten thousand dollars went to the Manresa basketball court and parking,” said Brophy Dads’ Club president Mr. Eamonn Ahearn.
This will allow visitors to find parking easier instead of parking in the dirt near the entrance. It will also allow for more space and easier parking in the lot.
Mr. Ahearn said expects to see the benefit of the construction during the father son work weekend.
There are no future plans for construction at Manresa at the moment.
“I think that what they are doing for Manresa is very honorable and also generous of them,” said Brophy sophomore Omar Moreno ’15.
