Josh Finch-Logan ’26 made a huge jump from spending last season on the varsity bench to becoming the starting defensive tackle this year.
His relentless offseason dedication, such as focusing on building strength with consistent weightlifting throughout the offseason and mastering the defense with extra workouts, has truly paid off and has not gone unnoticed.
“He’s matured a lot. Josh used to be more playful, but now he’s serious and focused. Last year, he was just a sophomore, but now as a junior, he’s stepping up as a leader. Along with Noah and Matt, he’s doing a great job leading the team,” said Mr. Tony Tabor, his position coach.
Finch-Logan’s hard work has not gone unnoticed, especially not with his position coach, Mr. Tabor.
Mr. Tabor’s words reflect the confidence the staff has in Finch-Logan, not just for his athletic talent, but for his leadership.
This move shows the coaching staff’s belief in his ability to step up and take on the tough job of leading the defensive line. As the season started, everyone will be watching to see how he handles the pressure and performs in his new role.
“We’re missing some guys from last year like Mardale, Brandon Byrne, and Devin Kennedy,” Finch-Logan said regarding the new season. Mardale Rowe ‘23, Brandon Byrne ‘23 and Devan Kennedy ‘23 were playmakers for the defense last season that Brophy lost last year to graduation, but Finch-Logan trusts his fellow D-Lineman to fill those roles.
“But I’ve got new guys like Noah Hubbard and Matt Hernandez. We’re coming out strong,” Finch-Logan said. “Expectations are high. We’ve got a lot of studs on the team. Everyone knows how to play. We just need to keep playing hard.”
As Finch-Logan grows into his role as a leader, his performance on the field will set the tone for Brophy’s defensive success. With experienced teammates and a solid foundation of hard work, the pressure of filling big shoes is an opportunity for Finch-Logan to make his mark.
As Brophy prepares for the season, Finch-Logan’s growth and readiness to lead will be crucial in navigating a challenging schedule and building team chemistry with the new starting unit.
