As the Brophy school year winds down and the robotics parts are put away, Brophy says goodbye to Mr. Kevin Elinski.
Mr. Elinski is the Director of Innovative Technologies at Brophy, teaches engineering and technology classes, and leads the robotics team as head coach. He has been teaching at Brophy for 10 years, and after this year, he decided to move to Europe to be closer to his family.
Mr. Elinski’s decision to retire is deeply personal, driven by his inclination to be closer to his daughter in London.
“I’m set in a situation where I can retire and still live the same lifestyle.” Mr. Elinski said, mentioning reaching social security age as a final green light. He hopes to go to the warm climates of the Mediterranean, somewhere such as Croatia or Malta.
For Mr. Elinski, the Innovation Commons at Brophy isn’t a finished product, but an “ongoing project.” As head coach, Mr. Elinski led the Brophy robotics team to winning an Industrial Design Award in Las Vegas earlier this year. He hopes his successor will keep the ball rolling and make the Innovation Commons better than it is. Mr. Elinski shares this sentiment for the robotics team as well and hopes that they continue their uphill course.
“The robotics team has grown quite a bit over the time I’ve been here, and I’d just like to see them continue to grow and compete, and maybe win a banner someday,” said Mr. Elinski
In retrospect, Mr. Elinski admits he didn’t fully understand the “Brophy culture” when he first arrived 10 years ago. Today, he leaves with a deep understanding of what it means to be part of the Brophy community. As he heads towards the Adriatic to be with his family, he leaves a legacy of curiosity and perseverance in the Innovation Commons. The Brophy community wishes Mr. Elinski the best during his transition and good luck in his retirement.
