Bryce Hardaway pursues excellence in martial arts and service

While most students head home after school, Bryce Hardaway ’28 heads to the weight room, preparing for wrestling season and his next Taekwondo class.
In line with wrestling, Hardaway practices Taekwondo and teaches it to kids. Taekwondo has taught Hardaway the values of mental discipline and self control.
He hopes that through Taekwondo kids can also realize the importance of these values.
“That’s a big part of me… I hope they get a similar experience to me, and get to see the full experience,” said Hardaway
Someone who he looks up to who exemplifies these values is Anthony Robles, who won the 2011 NCAA National Wrestling Championship with only one leg.
Hardaway said that he looks up to him because he shows that even if you have a disadvantage or set back, you can still succeed and be great.
Hardaway is also an avid volunteer at many organizations in the valley such as St. Mary’s Food Bank, St. Vincent de Paul and Feed My Starving Children.
“I just really enjoy those, and I like seeing the impact it makes on communities around the world” Hardaway said.
Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, Hardaway came to Brophy for its academics and athletics.
He hopes to look back at his four years at Brophy and say that he made a difference, either by starting a new club or seeking a leadership position.
“I’m hoping to do something that’ll make an impact on the school,” said Hardaway.
