THE ROUNDUP
Going through the day, teaching class after class, experiencing the constant fluorescent lights, can lead teachers to feeling drained.
The presence of coffee machines in there rooms offers up a beneficial relationship between not only the teachers, but the students as well.
Mr. Steve Smith’ 96 invites his students to join in community over a fresh cup of coffee most mornings, as long as they are working.
“I like to encourage my students to come in the mornings for just working on membean or noredink or who need extra help, so any student of mine who want to bring a mug in or their own keurigs is welcome,” said Mr. Smith.
Mr. Smith finds that the presence alone of the coffee machine creates a environment where teachers and students can come together and work.
“What began as just coffee for me in my classroom has become something communal where I share with my students,” said Mr. Smith.
Often times teachers use their coffee machines as a mean of convenience.
“I brought this one into work because sometimes it’s nice and comforting to have a cup of coffee in the morning,” said Mr. Philip Birgenheir.
He says that it offers him a little leeway if he is running a little behind some mornings.
“Sometimes I’m in a rush to get to work, so I’ll get up and get dressed really quick and start my work day with a coffee here instead of at home,” said Mr. Birgenheir.
He additionally said that his morning coffee is a way in which he can pay homage to his old friend Ms. Mason who left Brophy last year. This is the Jess Mason memorial fridge. She gave this to me after she left so now I’m continuing to use it in her honor, by using it to make coffee, said Mr. Birgenheir.”
Regardless if you feel coffee machines to be obsolete they do make a difference in people’s lives.
Mrs. Ashley Doud uses her coffee machine as a way to make her classroom feel more welcoming and home like for students.
“It’s great to have in here. It adds a lovely aroma to my classroom. I always want it to feel like home in my classroom. Not just for me, but for my students as well,” said Mrs. Doud.
