In light of students not honoring the distinguished Buck of Jeans days, the event has been wiped off the calendar in order to enforce uniform regulations.

This is appalling and a hit to Brophy’s commitment and dedication to helping and caring for those in need.

Last year, Buck of Jeans Day traditionally occurred on Fridays, but not every Friday, and many time people abused this privilege.

Students would often wear jeans on Fridays, even if they were not designated days, and just claim they thought otherwise.

Additionally, some students would evade paying the dollar for wearing jeans on Fridays.

However, even with these abuses, the school inevitably raised money and the money inevitable helped those in need.

According to a previous Roundup interview with Dean of Students Mr. James Bopp, the Buck of Jeans days generated “a fairly small amount of money,” though, this is money that charities now do not have.

Denying students the privilege of a day of lax dress code is in turn denying people in need the help that they so rightly deserve.

The students who don’t pay on the designated Buck of Jeans Days should be punished because of their lack of adherence to set regulations as well as their audacity to cheat a system constructed to help those less fortunate.

The students who wear jeans on a normal dress code day should be informed of their breaking of rules and upon first offense simply donate the dollar to charity and upon multiple offenses should be punished accordingly.

Brophy’s distaste for denim has affected its duties to aid the helpless to the fullest of its abilities.
