THE ROUNDUP
As of April 4, the Brophy baseball team has an overall 13-5 record after their first 18 games.
Nine of those 18 games are tournament games. The Broncos’ tournament record stands at 7-2.
The two tourney losses for the Broncos were to Tucson (11-9) in the Adam Donnefield Invitational, Feb. 25 and to Harvard-Westlake (7-5) in the Big League Dugout National Invitational, March 29.
The Broncos also defeated Regis Jesuit (Aurora, Colo.) 6-2 in the Dugout National Invitational.
Former Brophy Assistant Principal and Dean Mr. Jim Gmelich ’87 is Regis’ principal.
Despite their victory over Regis, Brophy gave up one more run than Regis did in pool-play. Therefore, Regis won the pool and advanced in the tournament.
The Broncos played a consolation game against Columbine (Littleton, Colo.) March 31 and won 4-0.
Brophy’s season record is 6-3, and they will play more regional games throughout April. The only regional game Brophy played so far is an 11-7 win at Red Mountain March 25.
Dave Graybill ’12 leads the team with nine homeruns.
The Broncos have nine games left in the season, each against a regional opponent.
There are two games against Desert Vista, two against Hamilton, two against Chandler, two against Mesa and one more game against Red Mountain.
Brophy’s next game is Tuesday, April 5 at Mesa. The Broncos defeated Mesa in both games last season.
