THE ROUNDUP
Quarterback Cade Knox ’16 was back in the lineup Friday, Nov. 7 in the first round of the state playoffs after missing the previous two weeks with a hand injury and threw for three touchdowns in the shutout win.
The Broncos came out strong against Perry High School at home, scoring 21 of their 45 points in the first quarter and 38 in the first half.
Head coach Mr. Scooter Molander said he has no worries about Knox’s hand moving into the second round of playoffs and is proud of the way he played after the injury.
Ryan Velez ’16 ran in two touchdowns in the first quarter and another in the third quarter.
Isaiah Oliver ’15 scored two touchdowns and also blocked a Perry field goal attempt, which led to his 28-yard touchdown catch in the back of the end zone on the following drive.
The Broncos defense gave Perry a lot of pressure as they struggled to move the ball down field throughout the game.
“We got off to a good start and our defense played tremendous,” Mr. Molander said.
The defense collected five sacks in the first quarter alone.
The offense got going early in the first quarter with a TD run by Velez and a 52-yard connection between Knox and Oliver.
“Our quarterbacks and receivers played very well, we ran the ball effectively enough and overall special teams were very good so it was an important win,” Mr. Molander said.
Notes:
- The Broncos now have an eight-game win streak
- They will face Desert Ridge Friday, Nov. 14 at home in the second round of the playoffs.
