Diego’s Strides Towards Greatness
By Jonathan Ayna
After leaving soccer, Diego Alejos ’27 is now focused on track, working hard to improve and hoping to compete for a Division I college on the West Coast.
Alejos is always looking toward his future. He went from soccer to track and now has his eyes set on college. He has already been thinking about competing in college and says track has shaped many key moments in his high school career.
Even though soccer was a big part of his athletic life, Alejos recently stepped away from the sport.
“I hung up the boots,” Alejos ’27 said. His reasoning for quitting soccer was simple: he realized he was a better runner than a soccer player.
Now, his focus is fully on track. When asked what college he wants to attend, Alejos said, “If I got to pick, it’s for sure any D1 school on the West Coast. I think SDSU would be fun to go to. UC Berkeley and Santa Clara would probably be my three picks,” said Alejos ’27.
Beyond track, Alejos is reflective about his time at Brophy and the fleeting nature of high school. When asked how fast his high school career has gone, he said, “I can’t say I’m sad. But it’s interesting how time flies. I don’t want to regret anything by the end of it. Everything I’ve done is the way I wanted to do it, and I like where I am now.”
