THE ROUNDUP
Mr. Chris White has many duties on campus that he can’t manage by himself—enter his assistants.
Mr. White is the athletic trainer on campus, so one of his responsibilities is the management of all athletic injuries. Not only does he have to do that, but he balances that with teaching Sports Medicine and Anatomy.
One of his graduate assistants is Austin Goodrich who is in his second year as Mr. White’s assistant and has tackled the duty of Assistant Athletic Trainer.
“I do all of the jobs that relate to athletic training, such as games and meets, which entails various duties during them,” Mr.Goodrich said.
He has been able to balance the job as an assistant while also still being a student.
“I am on campus four to five days a week but I am still a student,” Mr.Goodrich said. “I have classes in morning and on campus in the afternoons.”
He now looks onto the future as he is in his last year of being a graduate assistant.
“I am hoping to get a job at a junior college or high school as an assistant or the head,” Mr. Goodrich said. “I might try to get an internship in a minor league team.”
Ethan Mena ’18 is a student assistant of Mr. White.
“When it comes to games, I make sure the water is ready, help tape players, get injury ice ready and typically roll out players if needed,” Mena said. “During the day, I help operate the BodPod and help with any treatment Mr. White does.”
Mena looks to go further in the field of sports medicine and says that he has gained valuable knowledge from Mr. White.
“The big take away would be the overall knowledge of how the body works,” Mena said. “Another big thing is the sports medicine classes I took inspired me to seek a career in athletic training or physical therapy.”
Mr. White has two graduated and many student assistants to help him with the various duties as Goodrich and Mena have and will keep learning lessons and valuable knowledge into the field of sports medicine.
