THE ROUNDUP
The calm hum of music and insurmountable screams of the cheering crowd could be heard as my friend and I pulled into the Cricket Pavilion parking lot on June 29 to attend the highly renowned Vans Warped Tour.
This year, and in years prior, the famous Warped Tour has been known to serve multiple genres with myriad bands for 15 years.
Some very well known bands and artists performed this year, including 3OH!3, Mike Posner, Motion City Soundtrack, The All American Rejects, Sum 41 and many other just as talented bands.
We started out the day full of energy and enthusiasm by listening to Sum 41, around 4 p.m.
The band performed wonderfully and did an outstanding job on their song “In Too Deep.”
The exhausting day wrapped up while listening to Mike Poser at around 7:30 p.m.
He was terrific live and it was great seeing him sing during his ascension to the top tiers of the music world.
Though, I believe that the music and experience would have been much more enjoyable if I wasn’t so distracted by the eclectic and unique concert-goers.
I was able to bear the 107 degree weather, but the various piercings, graphic tattoos, and interestingly clad people made for an interesting and sometimes disturbing experience.
Others say that the atmosphere served as a great experience and was more enjoyable than the bands altogether.
Taylor Bloxom, an upcoming senior at Desert Mountain, said that he enjoyed himself at the concert because he was able to be with his friends and have a good time, regardless that he only liked two of the bands.
Similarly, Jennifer Na, an upcoming senior at Xavier, said, “This year was way more amazing than last year—even though the lineup was a little worse—it was better in its own ways.”
She said one of the reasons she enjoyed it was because of the people around her and her friends made it into a great experience.
She also said she enjoyed it because she got to see three of the bands that have been there for her since day one of her musical escapade.
Angie Babakitis, an upcoming junior at Sunnyslope High School, agreed .
“The line-up wasn’t as good as the past two years, but it was still pretty fun,” she said.
