Allen 1st Brophy winner

Gatorade named Brophy Track athlete Devon Allen ’13 its Arizona Track and Field Athlete of the Year June 21.
Allen who helped lead Brophy to a Track and Field championship last year and a runner-up finish this year, is the first Brophy student athlete to earn this award, according to a Gatorade press release
At this year’s state championship meet, Allen won 110-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles and finished runner up in the 100-meter dash and the 300-meter dash.
Allen holds school records as a freshman for the 100- and 200-meter dash and decathlon, sophomore records in the 100-, 200- and 400-meter dash, 110-meter high hurdles, 400-meter relay and decathlon and varsity records in the 100- and 200-meter dash, 110- and 300-meter high hurdles and the 400- and 1600-meter relay.
Not only does Allen own 28 percent of Brophy Track and Field records but he also holds the state record in the 100- and 200-meter hurdles and the 110- and 300-meter high hurdles with times of 10.51; 21.10; 13.52; and 36.39 respectfully.
“When you look at Devon’s performances, it is clear that he is very talented,” said coach Mr. Bill Kalkman in a press release. “What you don’t see is his humble spirited character, consistent team leadership and relentless maximum effort in workouts. Devon loves to compete, and he is not satisfied with his marks so far. He is pressing on with a training regimen to race faster in national competition this summer.”
This is the 27th year of the Gatorade Player of the Year program. Allen will now compete for the national player of the year title.
The program finds the state athlete of the year in each sport as well as the national athlete of the year in each sport.
