Bishop Allen ’29, a new freshman at Brophy, stands out not only for his talent on the football field but also for his journey as a reclass from South Carolina.
After spending eight years in South Carolina, Allen moved to Arizona this year to attend Brophy and play football. He decided to reclass to improve and excel both academically and athletically.
The choice has given him the chance to grow as a leader, focus on football, and set himself up for a stronger future on and off the field.
Allen, since reclassing, says he sees himself being able to be a leader. “It feels like I can take more of a leadership role model here.”
But with all their pros come cons; for Allen, most of his cons came at the beginning of his journey. This wasn’t an easy decision for him, but he knew it was the right one and that it was going to pay off in the long term.
“The main challenge was all my friends moving up to a higher grade,” said Allen. To reclass, he also had to change schools to repeat the fifth grade.
Allen said the transition to Brophy hasn’t really changed much for him overall. “Making friends here has been a bit of a challenge for me, really,” Bishop said. “But, like, sports-wise, grades-wise, nothing really has changed.” Despite being in a new environment, he has stayed focused on his goals and kept his performance consistent, both on the field and in school.
Allen’s goals go past just reclassing. He’s focused on growth and making an impact. “Just be the best football player, be the best athlete, help my community out,” he said. His mindset reflects his drive to improve and lead by example, showing maturity beyond just his grade. Allen said he is determined to put in the work and “just ready to fulfill that sacrifice.”
His final remarks were that he has no regrets and is ready to let the whole school know who he is and what he can do
