Seniors’ paths winding down during final semester

By Beau W. Peterlin ’10
THE ROUNDUP

It is that time of the year again and spring is upon us.

The time that its starts warming up and heavy jackets are no longer needed; the time when students begin to look forward to a much needed spring break.

The second semester of senior year can mean a number of things.

Depending on whether or not seniors applied early action or waited to regular decision affects the way they view second semester. Regardless, the anticipation of college is rolling through campus.

Seniors are putting away their Brophy sweatshirt in exchange for the sweatshirt of their college choice.

The question “what college are you going to next year” from teachers is becoming more common talk throughout classrooms on campus.

This is a different time for the counseling department as well as they take on new students and try to help seniors get ready for college.

“Every year seniors tend to go through a slum,” said Ms. Katie Cardinali, who said she believes that “it means a lot to finish strong.”

“Academically, stay the course,” and “non-academically it’s important to talk to your peers and counselors,” Ms. Cardinali said when asked about advice for second semester seniors.

The counseling department has sent out a few articles this year to seniors about second semester senioritis.

“I saw something about the University of Washington not accepting some students because of poor second semester grades, so I guess that’s sort of an incentive to do decently my second semester,” said Taylor Ahrensdorf ’10.

Other students are taking the semester serious as well.

“Well, I’m trying to take it serious as possible because I still want to keep my grades up. I’m trying to enjoy it but I’m still trying to get high grades for the end of the semester,” said Brandon Paronne ’10.
