Adams looks to rebound from knee injury

Walker Adams ’16, starting middle linebacker for the varsity football team, said he has enjoyed playing football for as long as he can remember.

“I’ve been playing contact football since fifth grade, so I was 10 my first year,” Adams said.

He is coming off of an ACL tear, which caused him to miss the entire 2014 season.

“It definitely was upsetting, you spend all spring, summer and fall camp getting ready for that first game and to get hurt that close was devastating,” Adams said.

The injury opened his eyes to the reality of playing a sport like football.

“Before my injury I was pretty convinced I was superman,” he said.

Though football takes up the majority of his time Adams said he puts grades high on his priority list.

“I squeeze a lot in, in a short amount of time,” Adams said. “I’ve always been pushed my parents to not just be a dumb jock.”

As far as his goals for the season, Adams said that a big goal for him would be to help carry Brophy to a state championship.

For the Broncos to make it to the state championship, Adams knows he will need to return to the form of his record-breaking sophomore season.

Something people may not know about Adams is his interest in video games.

“‘FIFA’ is definitely the easiest choice when it comes to sports games,” Adams said.

Teammate and friend Connor Murphy ’16 knows about Adams’ love for the soccer game.

“He should’ve been a soccer player, he loves ‘FIFA’,” Murphy said.

Murphy said that Adams is the leader of the defense and makes everyone better.

“He is basically one of our defensive coordinators,” Murphy said.

Murphy said it made an impact on the team when Adams went down last season with a torn ACL.

“It was a huge loss for us,” he said, adding that Adams will be a critical piece of the defense if they plan on making a run for the state title.

“He is the captain of our defense,” Murphy said.
